Hyves OpenSocial

Opensocial is the standard for opening up social networks through an API, initiated by Google. This API will allow third party developers to write apps for social networks once, and deploy them on multiple social networks. Facebook already opened up their platform for developers, but in a facebook-specific way. Opensocial will do the same, but following a standard API and therefore making life of the developers easier.

Hyves, the leading dutch social network is one of the early adaptors of OpenSocial and worked together with Google to implement Opensocial by using Shindig, the J2ee open source implementation of Opensocial.

D17 was asked to assist in setting up the development and production environment. Also Dirk helped out in developing and integrating Hyves-specific code with the Shindig code base.
